The
Collegiate Church in Manhattan's East Village needed
more space for its spiritual, educationall and social
programs. Rosen Johnson Achitects presented analyses
and schematics for several alternatives showing where
expansion could occur on the constrained site. The
single-story Fellowship Hall at the center of the site
is demolished to make way for an expanded sanctuary
and new core serving a reconstructed Church House with
all new facilities. The addition of a fifth floor provides
a conference center. The facade of the Church House
is recontructed and the first floor lowered to provide
a welcoming street level entrance. A new elevator incorporated
into the 125 year old building provides ease of access
to all floors.
